DULUTH, Mn — A Sturgeon Bay man is killed in a boating accident on Lake Superior.
68-year-old Donald James Sarter was killed this morning when the boat he was driving capsized.
According to KBJR in Duluth, MN two other people were aboard the 21-foot Monark Aluminum Hulled boat operated by Sarter.
According to reports the engine became flooded with water and large waves overturned the boat.
According to sheriff's officials, three people escaped the capsized boat and swam for shore. Two of them made it to shore and called 911.
Sarter was later found by Duluth Firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to one of the men involved, all were wearing life jackets at the time but not zipped together in the front.
The boat is owned by Roen Salvage of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, which is where the three men are employed.
The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
