Moments after the 16-yer-old student was shot after stabbing a school resource officer, teachers inside Oshkosh West High School worked quickly to evacuate students.

The high schoolers were sent to Perry Tipler Elementary School to wait to be reunited with family.

"It was actually kind of really terrifying because it was really close to my classroom," says Jaden Faust a freshman at Oshkosh West.
"It sounded like someone was slamming into a locker but in reality, it was a gunshot," she says.

"All of a sudden we heard yelling and somebody says to call 911 and get out of the building," senior Olivia Everett says. "Then Scott came back and said get out get out now!"

Seventeen hundred students at Oshkosh West High School had to get out, fast.

"It was just like shouting and people running. So that was kind of scarier. The not knowing what was happening was scary," Olivia's sister Emma says as she describes running from the scene.

Some students ran others were taken by bus to Perry Tipler Middle School that is less than one mile away from Oshkosh West High School.

The school district contacted parents to tell them there had been a shooting at their child's school. A phone call many parents fear.

"We were on the phone. We got another call and we dropped everything to come here," says Lee Faust whose daughter is a freshman at Oshkosh West High School. He says he and his wife got to Perry Tipler Middle School as quickly as they could. "Mom cried. It's a lot, you know? I'm upset, obviously," he says as he describes the moment he got the call.

Still not yet knowing they were safe many students used their phones to reach out to family.

"I was in shock. I said, is this happening? I took my phone out and I texted my mom 'I love you,' says freshman Jaden Faust.

Once all of the students were inside of the middle school, students and parents were told the situation was under control and everyone else was safe.

For several hours parents waited in lines that wrapped around the building and into neighboring streets. Waiting for the moment to wrap their arms around their children, knowing they're finally safe.

"This is one of those things you always hear in the news. You never think it's going to happen to you and then it did," adds sophomore, Robert Valero.

By 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, after nearly 4 hours since the shooting most students were reunited with family.

The condition of both the 16-year-old student who was shot and the officer who was stabbed is still unknown. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries and are recovering in a local hospital.
