SHEBOYGAN (NBC 26) — Sheboygan Fire Department says a porch caught fire Saturday afternoon after what appears to be an act of careless smoking.
The Department reports the fire was on the 2200 block of N 8th St. in the City of Sheboygan.
Firefighters say they found flames coming from the front porch of the home when they arrived.
According to the report, bystanders and Sheboygan Police attempted to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful. Firefighters used a hose-line to fully extinguish the fire and the home's occupants were able to safely reenter the house.
An initial investigation by the Department shows signs of the fire being started by careless use of smoking material; although they say the fire remains under investigation at this time.
Sheboygan Fire Department reminds people to properly dispose of any smoking material in a safe place outside and away from any structures.
