GREEN BAY - Santa Clause made a special trip on Thursday to visit some of the area's most precious gifts this Christmas.

This was Santa's first visit to the NICU at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay where babies and their families celebrate their very first Christmas together.

Santa also came bearing gifts to these prematurely-born babies. Each family received a book to commemorate each baby's first Christmas. They also handed out hats and onesies made by two of the NICU's nurses.

"I had a baby 10 years ago and I remember the struggle wanting to be home during the holidays and also with my baby. So I think it's important that we're focusing on the babies today. Maybe they can focus on their family another day and be able to do both," says Mandi Hurst, a N.I.C.U. RN at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

Aurora BayCare Medical Center officials say the goal of the event is to bring a bit of normalcy and joy to parents of NICU patients by helping celebrate their little one's first Christmas.

Participating NICU babies ranged in age from less than 1 day to 3 months old.
