PULASKI (NBC 26) - Sunday kicked off a week-long celebration in Pulaski to honor the village’s name-sake.
Count Casimir Pulaski was a Polish soldier during the Revolutionary War. This week is his birthday, and to celebrate, the village hosts activities throughout the week.
Sunday morning, a Polka Mass was held, followed by a Chicken Booyah Social Pie and Auction. The Village says this week is a fun way for locals to learn about the history of where they live.
"We took his name here because polish farmers invaded from Ellis Island,” said Rock Mannigel of Pulaski. Mannigel is also a local historian.
The village will host more events throughout the week. The local museum is also hosting special events, where every 4th grader will take a trip to the museum and learn about Casimir Pulaski.
The celebration will wrap up with a mass on March 8th at the St. Casimir Church of Krakow.
