GREEN BAY (NBC26) - We're only a few days away from ringing in 2020 and the celebration has already begun for many. That’s why police are staffing up to help keep drunken drivers off the roads.

“We’re anticipating a fairly busy weekend,” said Lt. Matt Cain with the Green Bay Police Department.

Cain said Friday night was busy for them and they’re ready to do it again Saturday; especially as it’s the last one of 2019.

“Its alcohol focused,” he said. “Looking for drunk drivers; that's probably the most predominant.”

While they'll be out all around town, there's a few hot spots they have their eyes on. He said the bar districts including Washington, Main and Broadway streets will be staffed accordingly Saturday and New Years Eve.

But just how much will people be drinking? To ring in the holiday, statisticsshow champagne, tequila and vodka will be the top drinks of choice.
So watching how much you drink could be the difference between a new year and a new you or a new year and a new room behind bars.

“Use Uber, use taxis, use designated driver programs and don't make the mistake of thinking you’re just buzzed,” Cain added. “There's enough programs out there all it takes is the touch of an app on your phone and you can get home safe.”

On New Years Eve, the Green Bay Police Department said they'll also be working with the Brown County Sheriff's Department's OWI Task Force.
