LEDGEVIEW, Wis. — There have been record-breaking online sales this holiday season, which means more packages are being shipped to customers just weeks before Christmas.

Unfortunately the season of giving can also bring out some people who may want to take advantage of the opportunity to steal your holiday cheer right from your front porch. They've been dubbed 'porch pirates.'

The problem has caused some online companies to invest in prevention. Amazon has introduced several way to keep packages safe. The e-commerce giant offers Amazon key in select markets. It's a smart lock and camera system to get deliveries to your car or inside your home. Some people may be uneasy about that option so they have also implemented Amazon lockers available in select areas.

Another way as a consumer to protect yourself can be to invest in a smart doorbell like the Ringwith camera that links to your phone.

For people who still have packages to ship out, there is still a little bit of time. The final day to send packages USPS ground is Thursday Friday, December 14th; First Class and Priority mail is Thursday, December 20th and the final day for priority mail express is December 22, which is the last Saturday before Christmas.
