GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay Police urge people to bring their pets indoors during these dangerously cold temperatures.
Officers say family pets should not be left out for long periods of time. Police say they follow the guidelines of the American Veterinarian Association.
Pets left out 32 degrees or below could face serious issues like frost bite and hypothermia. Officers say animals should be in proper ventilated and insulated dog houses in the winter.
Otherwise the best thing to do, is just bring them in the house.
"We have ordinances that we will fine someone for stuff,” Mallory Meves, a sworn humane officer with Green Bay Police. “But if an offense would arise to an animal being left outside, and they were to freeze to death, then that result a death of an animal, it results in jail time.”
Meves says they make several runs around neighborhoods to make sure animals are all safe and healthy, especially with these cold temps.
