OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- A school resource officer will not face criminal charges in a shooting incident at Oshkosh West High School back in December.
Court documents say a student, 17-year-old Grant Fuhrman, stabbed School Resource Officer Michael Wissink with a barbecue fork at the school on December 3, 2019. Officer Wissink fired his gun, shooting Fuhrman and himself. Fuhrman was later taken into custody and was charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide.
On Monday, the Winnebago District Attorney announced that, following an investigation, the shooting was determined as justified and no criminal charges will be brought against Officer Wissink. A news release from the District Attorney's office said Officer Wissink’s decision to use deadly force was reasonable.
Fuhrman is currently awaiting trial.
