Northeast Wisconsin bakeries prepare for big crowds on Paczki Day

Fat Tuesday will once again bring a lot of business to bakeries in Northeast Wisconsin for Paczki Day.

Paczkis are a traditional Polish treat many like to enjoy before the season of Lent prior to Easter.

They're filled with jam or other sweet filling and topped with icing or powdered sugar.

The Polish pastry is a big hit, and the tradition grows each year.

Greg Smurawa with Smurawa's Country Bakery in Pulaski says the tradition is a way to share a decades-old family recipe with the public.

The idea is to eat a paczki on Fat Tuesday for good luck the rest of the year.
