DOOR COUNTY (NBC 26) — One church in the town of Brussels says it has recently added a little food pantry to provide for those in need.
The new little food pantry is located in front of the St. Francis and St. Mary Parish at 9716 Cemetery Road in Brussels, WI.
Fr. Edward Looney, pastor of the parish, says he is part of a community Facebook page where someone asked if there was a little food pantry in Brussels.
With there not being a local little food pantry, Fr. Looney volunteered his parish. He says this is part of the church's response to their Parish Mission Planning goals to reach out to their community and the poor.
The parish hopes the pantry can provide an anonymous resource to those in need.
According to Fr. Looney, the little pantry was installed on May 8 before noon. Donations came in quickly as the news of its opening spread over Facebook. By the end of the day he said several people had already made use of the pantry.
While the parish is hoping this can assist the poor, the little pantry is meant for anyone. "Take what you need and give what you can" is the little food pantry's given motto.
Fr. Looney explains you can take whatever you need, but asks that you make a donation of another item if and when you are able.
