NORTHEAST WISCONSIN (NBC 26) -- In the past days and weeks, we’ve heard your struggles.

Thousands of Wisconsinites have filed for unemployment. Some people are struggling to pay the bills. Others are feeling alone and stressed as isolation continues. In short, the effects of the coronavirus have taken a major toll on our day-to-day lives.

Monday, NBC 26 launched ‘The Rebound’. The goal is to keep our viewers connected by shining a light on available resources and the unique ways our community is working to come out stronger on the other side.

For example, we recently talked with leaders at the Jackie Nitschke Center. Its mission is to provide alcohol and substance abuse treatment. Those risks may be heightened during this time of stress and uncertainty.

“Certainly, alcohol or other drugs as a numbing agent is something that can become popular and very problematic in a short amount of time,” Jackie Nitschke Clinical Supervisor Tina Marie Baeten said.

The team at Jackie Nitschke has recognized that and adapted the organization to help.

“We have started a recovery wellness check-in program for anybody in the community,” Executive Director Lawrence Connors said. “Several times a week where people can call in and just connect with people in recovery. We essentially just found ways to keep people connected, not only to the therapy they need but also the support and recovery.”

We’ve found there are dozens of organizations and groups working to help others through this pandemic. Whether there’s a need for food, financial assistance, or mental health support, Northeast Wisconsin likely has it.

We at NBC 26 have a team hard at work to learn how to manage the pressures of this pandemic, make sure relief programs work as promised, find a job, and find resources that can help.

‘The Rebound’ will premier on-air Monday on NBC 26 News at 6:00.
