MANITOWOC (NBC26) - A unique holiday display is "aluminating" downtown Manitowoc.

"There's pink; you can get green; you can get gold; you can get blue frost which was a silver branch with a turquoise blue tip,” said Barbara Bundy-Jost.

Manitowoc is taking a trip back in time to celebrate everything the city had to offer in 1959. They’re home to the Evergleam Aluminum Christmas Tree. To celebrate during the holiday season, they’re showcasing the trees with a display around town, with the main hub at the Manitowoc Public Library.

"It was kind of a spacey-looking tree,” she said.

Nearly 50 storefronts are sporting these aluminum trees as well for the tree’s 60th anniversary. You can find dozens of different sizes, styles and colors from local collectors, scattered around town.

"So when you start finding these trees, you come across a treasure you didn't even know existed,” Bundy-Jost said, who is on the Manitowoc Public Library Board. “I didn't know my little frosty 4 foot pine, it's just a straight needle longer branch, they only made a handful of those."

There are about 100 Evergleam trees currently up around Manitowoc as part of the display. This includes a special 10 foot commercial Evergleam at the library, which hasn't been seen in display since the 1960's.

If you're interested in checking out this local history, the display will be up until January 5th. Maps are available at each participating business and the library. They are also offering trolley tours next Saturday.
