APPLETON (NBC26) - Locals are calling for more affordable and reliable transportation in the Fox Valley.
Tuesday morning, Esther, an inter-faith social justice organization, recognized Transit Equity Day outside of the Appleton Transit Center. Organizers say this effort honors the work of Rosa Parks, whose birthday is February 4. They gave out hand-made roses in honor of Parks as they spread awareness on improving local transportation.
“It’s not so much the cost, a lot of it is how efficient is the ride,” said Connie Kanitz, the organization’s chair. “Is it getting to the destinations they need to get to? Is it open the hours that need to get to?”
Kanitz adds that we need more local, state, and national investments, and are hoping for private-public partnerships.
The organization is also hosting a day in the life of a bus driver event March 23, followed by a panel discussion to help increase transportation awareness.
