LUXEMBURG, Wis (NBC 26) -- With at least eight states experiencing meat processing plant closures this week, some are starting to ask whether or not it's safe to eat.
The CDC says at this point there is no evidence to support that COVID-19 is transported through food. They add that right now there are also no cases of the spread of COVID-19 being transmitted through food packaging. Today a local butcher from Luxemburg, weighed in on the concern even some of his customers have.
"That's what people read and that's what they believe and then they get concerned because there is not enough knowledge out there. I think this has created a certain fear in people. I believe our food is safe because it always has been safe here," says Otto Knoche the owner of Otto's Meats.
The CDC recommends doing four things when you bring meat home from the market. First, wash your hands, then separate your meat from its packaging, next cook it to its proper temperature and then put it in your refrigerator.
