SUAMICO (NBC 26) - A school district sent an email to parents Tuesday about the coronavirus. It’s regarding Bay Port High School’s recent choir trip to New York City.
Tuesday morning, the school said they were told a person attending a conference at the hotel the students were staying at, tested positive for the coronavirus. That person was at the hotel for a conference two weeks before the trip and left days before the students arrived.
The students were in New York and performed at Carnegie Hall. They returned Monday night and went back to school Tuesday. The district says state and local health officials say this is a low-risk situation. Area parents say they’re not concerned with anyone getting it here.
“No, I wasn’t,” said parent Jay VanCampenhout. “You always got to be up to date with the situations. People are kind of going through the motions they need. Taking care of your kid is what you need to do. Is there a concern? No, but just knowing something was there in the district and doing something was good."
Out of an abundance of caution, the school is expanding their cleaning efforts of high-touched surfaces; and says anyone in the district can talk with the school nurses if there are questions.
