KEWAUNEE (NBC 26) -- On Friday, workers at the only grocery store in Kewaunee found out how much they are appreciated during this health crisis.
The 45 workers at the Piggly Wiggly received goody bags today from a grateful community. There's no hospital in the town, so people wanted to thank their front-line workers for keeping the grocery stocked and running.
"Those people are working 11, 12, 13-hour days,” said Kewaunee resident Rachel Christian. “I talked to some of them and they were saying about how many hours they've been putting in. I thought, 'These people deserve something for doing what they're doing.' You hear all over that everybody's doing everything for frontline workers...well we have frontline workers in our little town too. And they deserve something."
Each goody bag included gift certificates from the Port O' Call and Waterfront restaurants, as well as candy bars, and even some home-made face masks.
