FOND DU LAC, Wis. (NBC 26) — The pandemic has affected students of all ages attending school, especially those graduating this year. A local Wisconsin high schooler wrote a song dedicated to the class of 2020.
The song was written and performed by high school senior Christian Strutz, with the help of other seniors making up what they call the 'Class of 2020 Choir.' The students attend a STEM charter school in Fond du Lac.
"So, the process has been very interesting because this is the first time, I’ve done a song where I’ve got other people involved," Strutz said. "I’ve been able to reach out to other seniors and get them all involved, and it’s been a big awesome mess to keep track of."
Christian came up with this original song about their experiences with school being shut down during the coronavirus pandemic. The lyrics are meant to speak to not just the graduating seniors, but everyone dealing with our changing world.
Strutz hopes the project will bring even more people together.
"For me songwriting is a way for me to really vent and get out my feelings in a proper way and be able to express myself and express it to others," Strutz explained. "And I thought, I should write a song about that and I had an awesome time doing it and everything just flowed really nice and it just came to be so well and I’m very happy with how it turned out."
"I'm looking for more people together involved in as well for any other seniors who may have missed out on this chance," Strutz added. "So I'm thinking about doing a music video updated version, so I'm looking for seniors who are wanting to submit to singing along to it, and I'm going to do a music video with everybody's faces all singing together and do another virtual choir as well."
Christian is selling recordings for purchase with 100% of the funds go to Convoy of Hope, a non-profit group helping with the nationwide COVID-19 relief. You can buy a digital copy HERE.
