GREEN BAY, Wis. — The growing season is quickly approaching and one organization in Brown County is helping people out.

The Green Bay Garden Blitz empowers residents to grow food and be part of a sustainable agricultural system. The project is part of New Leaf Foods. Since 2014, volunteers have built 547 gardens in the community.

Each year, over 100 volunteers come together to install over 100 garden boxes for residents’ homes as well as schools, libraries, food pantries, shelters and more.

“Food access and quality food is something that we work to improve in the community. We have subsidized garden beds that are funded by community organizations every year and we are very grateful for that,” explained Karen Early, the Foodwise Coordinator.

This year, 25 garden boxes will be installed in various Green Bay area public schools. This will allow children to learn about healthy food and nutrition.

If you would like to volunteer, you can head over to the Brown County Fairgrounds on Thursday and Friday to help construct and deliver the garden boxes.
