GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- The Green Bay Botanical Garden is currently closed due to the 'safer-at-home' order in Wisconsin. Although closed to the public they had to find ways to continue the work they have through the spring planting season.

The Director of Horticulture at the Green Bay Botanical Garden, Mark Konlock says employees continue to do the work prepping for the summer season, but are working at safe distances and clean and sterilize equipment before and after use.

There are many plants and flowers that need to be cared for daily with the cooler temperatures to prevent them from dying. The concern then comes to having the time and space to get it all done. Konlock says Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has donated space at their greenhouses and they have already filled them. The warmer weather needs to arrive soon to make space for about 400 plugs that will be arriving next week.

Konlock also shared how they miss their volunteers.

"One thing we're really looking forward to is having our volunteers come back. We really rely on them and we're like a big gardening family and they're what make us successful." said Konlock.

You can still show your support by donating to the Green Bay Botanical Garden by becoming a member now and then enjoying their gardens once they safely open. You can also always look into volunteer opportunities that will resume at a later date.
