BAY AREA (NBC 26) -- The first night of Hanukkah began Sunday evening. This celebration marks the rededication of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem.
The first candle will be lit on the menorah, which will continue for eight days.
"The idea of Hanukkah isn't to celebrate for yourself or even just for your own family, it's to spread that light throughout the community and throughout the rest of the world," said Rabbi Michoel Feinstein from the Chabad of the Bay Area. "So very often people will put their menorah in a window so it can be visible from outside or even place it outside of the home."
The Chabad of the Bay Area is hosting a large menorah lighting outside their building at 5 p.m. on December 29th.
