GREEN BAY (NBC 26) - Hundreds of kids attempted to take a "gold" medal at title town Saturday as it was transformed into a winter sports wonderland.
“It’s not so cold that it’s going to kill you, but it’s cold enough the conditions for all these various sports,” said Three-time Olympian and 1998 Olympic silver medalist Gordy Sheer for USA Luge.
The 2nd annual event hosted by U.S. Venture gives kids and community members a chance to try their hand, or feet, at some Olympic sports, including ski jumping.
“It’s really fun, you should try it,” said 9-year-old Xavier.
Ski jumping is new to the Titletown games this year!
“I’ve had a lot of kids ask if they can go to the top right away, which I like the confidence there,” said 2018 Nordic Combined Olympian Ben Berend.
If you're not one for ski jumping, you can also try curling, cross-country skiing, skating or trade a tube for a luge down Ariens Hill.
“Luge is the fastest sport on ice. It’s very much a precision sport,” added Sheer. “It really is the premier event on our try it luge schedule.”
There's still one more day families can get in on the fun. Berend adding, while maybe pushing for ski jumpers, that anyone should come and give the Titletown games a try.
“There’s not a ski jump in Green Bay, so it’s cool to put one down temporarily of a sport they'll see on the Olympics on TV in two years,” Berend said. “It gives them that introduction even if they never do it again, it’s just a cool thing to say I did that once.”
Sunday is the last day for the Titletown Winter Games. It will run from 12 – 5 p.m.
