A judge has delayed a decision in the case involving Appleton Coated after a two hour court session Friday, leaving more than 600 employees anxiously waiting to see what will happen to their jobs.

Employees were warned early this week that they would be temporarily laid off immediately.

The official closing date of the Appleton Coated sale was set to be Friday, September 29. With the postponement of the court session, that may be pushed back as well.

As of now, employees said they're being paid by the state and not the company.

Jim Weymberg has been an employee for 39 years and said he's hopeful the paper mill will be bought to sustain the business.

"This place has supported our families, the mill's been around for 125 years and it's just not the families that work in the mill, because every dollar that's made down in the plant will be spent back into the Valley," Weymberg explained.

He said most employees were temporarily laid off. Only a few workers are still at the mill.

The court session will resume Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and will go until the decision to sell the mill to a liquidator, or wait, is finalized.
