A judge sentenced a Green Bay man Friday who authorities say accidentally shot his friend to death.

This happened a little more than a year ago, when authorities say the two were playing with a loaded gun.

The Brown County judge sentenced 19 year-old Bryant Ellis to 20 years behind bars and 15 extended supervision. Ellis was 18 at the time of the shooting.

Authorities say Ellis accidentally shot and killed his friend,19 year-old Andrew Tohulka, last February in Green Bay. They say the two were messing around with a loaded gun when Ellis accidentally shot Tohulka in the head.

Authorities also believe drugs and alcohol were involved.

Ellis was charged with first degree reckless homicide.

Ellis’ attorneys tried to lessen the punishment to 7-to-10 years behind bars.

The state felt because he does have a criminal past and issues with drugs as well as alcohol, he’s a threat and danger to the community.

Ellis spoke at the sentencing, saying he was very apologetic and remorseful to the victim's family.
