Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election in 2019.
Mayor Schmitt has served as the city's mayor for 15 years. He was first elected in 2003 and won re-election in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

He said in a statement Tuesday that he's "interested in pursuing other things" when his current term is done.
"I'm hopeful that someone with vision, a strong work ethic and of course, someone who loves this City, will run for Mayor for the 2019 election," he said in a press release. "I won't turn over the city to shallow thinkers, vindictive personalities, or those with selfish motives. This City needs strong, educated leadership."
In February, a Green Bay resident started a petition to remove Mayor Schmitt from office after he was convicted of campaign finance fraud. The Common Council voted to keep him in office.
