Residents of the Fond du Lac neighborhood where a shooting left a 31-year-old man hurt over the weekend were still in shock Monday.
One person who has lived in the area for years told NBC26 it was like a scene from a movie.
The shooting happened on Western Ave as neighbors were waking up Sunday morning.
According to police, a suspect shot a 31-year-old man in the stomach. The man was taken to the hospital. The suspect was on the run, but turned himself in to police Sunday night.
One neighbor said the sound of gun shots woke him up. Another said she had no idea what was going on until a friend texted her. She then started panicking about her son and grandchild, whose house was in the middle of the crime scene.
"I was like, 'Wow that really happened,' and they were that close," said Barbara Alexander. "They were right in my son's backyard and front yard and to the house next to them."
Alexander said he's live in the area for years and has never experienced anything like yesterday's shooting.
The suspect is expected to be charged Tuesday.
