A worker at a Fond du Lac County cheese factory was injured after an explosion Friday morning.
Nearly a dozen agencies responded to the fire just after 7:00 a.m. Friday at Knauss Cheese.
It all started when Travis Klotzbach used a cutting torch on an empty 55-gallon barrel, according to officials.
The barrel exploded, breaking bones and burning Klotzbach's face, back, and legs.
The explosion caused a fire inside the cheese plant's auto shop.
Crews credited the staff for preventing further damage.
"The employees that were there did a great job of extinguishing, and keeping the fire small, but when some of the first people arrived here they were trying to get people out of the shop," Lamartine Fire Chief Joe Birschpach said.
First responders said they managed to put the fire out quickly with more help, this time from other agencies.
"We had a super turnout by all the departments around here that quickly put out the fire," Birschpach said.
The fire did not spread to other areas of the building.
Crews said the auto shop sustained some smoke and fire damage.
