The state Department of Health Services reported Wednesday that at least 362 people in Wisconsin have died from COVID-19 and nearly 8.900 people have been infected. The actual number of infections is thought to be far higher, because many people have not been tested and studies suggest people can be infected without feeling sick.
The percentage of positive cases has declined for three consecutive days, but has gone up and down over the past 14 days.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
