Just before 6:30 this morning, a decision was made to cancel the Community First Fox Cities Marathon due to the inclement weather.

A line of showers and thunderstorms were moving through the Fox Cities and lighting was embedded with this band of precipitation.

Out of an abundance of caution and safety concerns, race organizers have decided to cancel the race this year.

This now becomes the second time this year a marathon has been canceld from weather. The Cellcom Green Bay Marathon was canceled due to flooding, and now severe weather strikes again.

"I almost couldn't believe it," said Steve Wieckert, one of the runners. "It was like a punch to the gut."

Many people use this marathon to qualify for the Boston Marathon. No refunds are being given to the runners who signed up. The race will not be postponed.
