MOUNT MORRIS, Wis. — A taste of a true Northeast Wisconsin winter is definitely here and some folks are very happy about it.

Cold temperatures are welcomed by many people, not just the ones who enjoy doing winter activities.

Employees at Nordic Mountain are very excited about the recent cold snap. So far this winter employees have been battling the mild temperatures as they thaw away the man-made snow.

Mother Nature hasn't helped out with lack-luster snow season so far. It looks like we have more melting on the way as we head into the weekend. This is certainly not good news for folks who work at Nordic Mountain or those who ski.

Temperatures have to be lower than 28 degrees in order for their snow machine to create snow. So even though this weekend temperatures are expected to rise, at night when temperatures drop they should be able to make snow just fine.

Workers at Nordic Mountain said the groomer pushes piles of snow around the hill to create optimal conditions. Rainfall this season can create hard packed snow. The groomer grinds up that hard pack and turns it into what is called "corn snow."

Corn snow makes for a better skiing surface and an experienced skier or snowboarder will definitely notice the difference but fresh snowfall is the best option.
