GREEN BAY – Happy April Fowl’s Day! After “ducking” questions for several weeks, the Tall Ship Festival presented by Baylake Bank is able to confirm an announcement we think will really fit the “bill.” Confident this won’t ruffle the feathers of the mallards at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, we’re thrilled to announce the World’s Largest Rubber Duck will be nesting at this year’s festival!

Known as “Mama Duck” she weighs 11 tons which is roughly the weight of 5 1/2 cars and weighs more than the heaviest elephant ever recorded in the world. At 61 feet tall she is taller than a six story building. You won’t have to “duck” for selfies!

“Mama Duck” will float alongside nine ships already announced for the 2016 festival: When and If, Appledore IV , U.S. Brig Niagara , Pride of Baltimore II , Windy , S/V Denis Sullivan , Madeline , El Galeon and Draken Harald Hårfagre.

The festival timeline begins on August 3 with the Algoma Sneak Peek, the Sturgeon Bay Parade of Sail also on August 3 and the Green Bay three-day Tall Ship Festival presented by Baylake Bank August 5-7 with nine vintage ships for onboard tours or sail excursions. The sail excursions are now on sale at www.tallshipgreenbay.com.

Green Bay remains the only city in the state to have hosted a Tall Ships event of this size and scope. Produced by PMI Entertainment Group, the festival is expected to draw an estimated 50,000 people with an economic impact of $3.6 million for the Green Bay area. Volunteer group and festival information can be found at www.tallshipgreenbay.com.
