The Miracle League of Green Bay will open its season on Saturday, June 4th , 8:30 a.m. at Resch Miracle Field in Allouez Optimist Park. The organization has just over 200 players on 16 teams, and over 400 volunteers.

The Miracle League is a non-profit baseball organization exclusively for children with mental or physical challenges, ages 4 to 19 years, regardless of their capabilities.

The Opening Day will start out with a usual ceremony, preceded by music from the Village of Allouez Band. Then special guests, an honor guard from Rawhide Boys Ranch , the National Anthem, followed by all teams playing a shortened game throughout the remainder of the day.

Miracle League apparel will be available for order and concession stand open all day long.

New this year, some repairs to the baseball field surface where, for safety purposes, seams have been repaired.

Over the course of the summer the summer, the park will get some additions as well. Some of the plans include a wooden footbridge over the marshy area separating the park acreage in half. This will open up more play area to the south direction. Paved walkways are planned and a rubber surface is to be added to the playground in the older, non-surfaced part of that playground equipment. A recent fundraiser for that playground surface expansion is primarily responsible for the improvements of accessibility.

Although repairs have been made to the field surface to remove any sources of tripping, it is anticipated that a total new surface replacement will be needed in 2 to 3 years at a cost nearing $250,000. Fundraising will be required. For donating or volunteering contact Paul Liegeois at liegeoispaul@aol.com. Or visit the web site at: www.greenbaymiracleleague.com.
