Most students are headed back to school Tuesday, and that means drivers and children need to pay extra attention on the roads.

The Share and Be Aware GB campaign is reminding children to wear their bike helmets, ride on the right side with traffic and use hand signals when turning.

Drivers are also reminded to share the road and follow important safety rules. This includes slowing down and refraining from texting or eating while driving.

"We're asking drivers to slow down, not be distracted," explained Michelle Bachaus, the Share and Be Aware Ambassador with the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation. "No yelling at the kids in the backseat and driving. You need to focus on your job and your responsibility."

Safety experts also say drivers should always give people on bikes at least three feet of room when passing.

Share and Be Aware GB is a partnership between BayCare Clinic Bikes, the Wisconsin Bike Fed and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Safety.
