Oshkosh police find meth lab in hotel

The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating a methamphetamine lab that was located in a hotel room in the 1500 block of West South Park Avenue.

Oshkosh Police went to the hotel at about 10 a.m. Monday in an attempt to locate a 27-year-old man who had a warrant for his arrest. Oshkosh Police located the man in a parking lot in the 1500 block of West South Park Avenue and arrested him for the warrant. During the investigation, Oshkosh Police discovered a meth lab inside the man's hotel room.

The 27-year-old man, in addition to the warrant, was arrested on a probation hold, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of meth waste and second degree reckless endangering safety. He was taken to jail.

A 26-year-old woman from Oshkosh was in the hotel room with a 10-month-old baby. The 10-month-old was placed in protective custody by the Department of Human Services.

There was no threat to the public’s safety. Other living arrangements were made for people who were staying in the hotel.

The hazardous material disposal unit from Chicago arrived on the scene at about 8 p.m. and cleaned up chemicals inside the hotel room. The scene was cleared at about 9 p.m.

The Oshkosh Police Department is continuing the investigation.
