The Green Bay Metro Fire Department, along with NBC26, BayCare, and Shopko, nearly tripled the number of gifts donated to their annual Gifts for Teens drive this year.
The drive raised $4,300 to go towards buying gifts for teenagers in Northeast Wisconsin. After the shopping was completed, in addition to donated gifts, the Fire Department has just over 650 gifts to donate to the Salvation Army this year.
"We couldn't be prouder to be part of this whole process and we really couldn't be more humbled by the generosity of the community," said firefighter Chad Decker.
This was the first year the GB Metro Fire Department asked for the community's help with the drive. Before that, they donated just from their own pockets.
"To be able to do our part to help those in need or others who need a little more on Christmas, it's a fun way to do our part," said firefighter Logan Simkowski.
A group of firefighters went shopping Wednesday, picking up everything from sporting goods to clothes to Packers gear for teenagers.
They will take a fire truck to Shopko Hall on December 19th to deliver the gifts to the Salvation Army. Parents will then be able to come pick up gifts for their kids on the 20th and 21st.
NBC26 wants to thank everyone who donated to this year's Gifts for Teens, helping it become the most successful year since the drive started.
