The Brown County Board is weighing options for the future of the Veterans Memorial Arena.

In March, a consultant advised leaders to tear down the arena.

A feasibility study suggests a 100,000-120,000 square-foot space for a new exhibition center.

"I believe that you go with the biggest option, just because it offers the versatility and the flexibility, and it really fits that area the best," says District 9 Board member Patrick Evans. "So, if you're going to build it, you build it the correct way. And that would be the largest facility possible."

The next challenge, says Evans, is approving a funding mechanism for the project.

“Do we bond for it? Do we use a ½ percent sales tax? Is there room taxes," asks Evans, "or some other functions that we’re going to use? So, I think you’re going to see the politics of the arena come into play for the funding mechanism.”
