The owners of an Appleton business were honored Thursday for saving a person's life.

Back in September, a man had a heart attack while taking a class at the Fox Valley Grappling Club. James and Alexandra Peterson, along with students, were able to grab a publicly accessible automated external defibrillator, or AED, at Spats restaurant nearby. James used the AED to shock the patient's heart which kept him alive until EMS crews arrived to take over.

"It's an amazing story. From what I know about what I had, most people don't make it through unless they have someone every step of the process," explained heart attack survivor Eric Peterson.

The owners of the Grappling Club say they are now fundraising to get their own AED.

There are currently 24 of the devices in downtown Appleton.
