Sturgeon Bay, WI – Maritime week kicks off in Sturgeon Bay.
This year’s event is titled “Sturgeon Bay Maritime Week: A Salute to the U.S. Coast Guard”.
The celebration includes waterfront events focusing on Sturgeon Bay’s maritime history and honors the area’s local Coast Guard personnel for their service to the community.
The events run July 30 to August 13.
Maritime Week gets underway Saturday, July 30. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. at Sawyer Park in Sturgeon Bay. There will be a picnic for Coast Guard personnel and their families.
Maritime Week activities continue Wednesday, August 3. The tall ships will stop in Sturgeon Bay at the docks downtown for the night.
On Monday, August 8, the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club hosts the Coast Guard Person of the Year and Mariner Award Dinner.
The festivities continue with the Harmony by the Bay Summer Concert Series on Wednesday, August 10. The concert begins at 7 p.m. with a salute to veterans at Martin Park.
The Salute to the Coast Guard Golf Tournament will take place on Thursday, August 11. The four-person scramble takes place at Idlewild Golf Course.
On Thursday there is also TGIT Sail Racing at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club.
The weekend of August 12 & 13 wraps up Maritime Week. The Classic and Wooden Boat Festival starts at 4 p.m. on Friday on the grounds of the Door County Maritime Museum.
Saturday is a busy day with several activities going on for people of all ages. The Evening on the Bay events at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club include live music and the annual Venetian Night boat parade. The night ends with fireworks.
Sturgeon Bay was named an official Coast Guard City in 2014. It’s one of only 20 communities in the nation to be given the title and the first and only in Wisconsin.
