ASHWAUBENON, Wis — If you don't see a State Trooper on the interstate that doesn't mean they’re not watching, especially this week in northeast Wisconsin’s Outagamie, Winnebago and Brown counties.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says they are working with a trooper in the sky along Interstate 41 and Interstate 43 this week. The plan right now is for a trooper to be watching Brown County on Friday and keeping an eye on Winnebago County on Tuesday. On Monday the State Patrol says a trooper was watching Outagamie County from the sky, looking for folks speeding and people driving recklessly. Sgt. Erik Heinz of Wisconsin’s State Patrol says having a look at traffic from the air gives them a vantage point that would be more difficult for a trooper on the ground, to potentially notice.

"They're able to kind of pick out obviously which cars are going faster than the other ones. We always want people to make sure they are abiding by the speed laws and not following too close and being attentive to their driving," says Sgt. Heinz.

The State Patrol says the trooper from the sky has a vantage point that allows them to see driving violations that can be missed by troopers on the ground. They add that by giving drivers a heads up about this enforcement effort they hope it encourages drivers to obey by the laws of the road.
