OSHKOSH (NBC 26) -- An Oshkosh man was sentenced Thursday afternoon to 20 years in prison followed by 20 years of extended supervision for shaking his infant son to death.

Cory Lyons entered a no contest plea in January to a charge of First Degree Reckless Homicide in the death of his two-month-old son.

According to a criminal complaint, on November 29th, 2018 around 8:30 p.m., detectives responded to investigate a 7-week-old infant that had no pulse and wasn't breathing.

The complaint says the baby's mother left her son in the care of his father, Lyons. As police interviewed Lyons, authorities noted that Lyons changed his story a couple of times.

The criminal complaint then notes that Lyons admitted to shaking the infant, saying he was frustrated with the child crying and soiling his diaper.

When the child was brought to a hospital, the criminal complaint says a CT scan revealed the child suffered a brain injury which subsequently led to the child's death. A doctor in the criminal complaint said the shaking of the baby by Lyons likely led to the infant's injuries.

The criminal complaint called Lyons a habitual criminal. His most recent prior conviction was a felony forgery charge in February 2016. Online court records show Lyons changed his last name from Swatkowski to Lyons.

Online court records also show Cory Swatkowski has a long record of crimes dating back to 2009 for 4th Degree Sexual Assault. Court records also show convictions for Cory Swatkowski for crimes such as burglary and drug possession.
