GREEN BAY (NBC26) - We're a few weeks out from a big community-wide giving day that helped give more than $1.3 million to area nonprofits last year.

Give BIG Green Bay is a partnership between the Green Bay Packers Foundation and the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. Thursday, they announced the 40 local nonprofits that will benefit from the 24-hour online event.

“We received over 100 applications and narrowed it down,” said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy.

For the third annual event, organizers say 60 percent of the nonprofits participating are new to the program.

“We applied and got chosen so we were like yaey,” said Renita Robinson, the CEO of YWCA.

While local nonprofits rely on community support, many say being a part of this is more than the money.

“We all need financial support but it’s really about rallying around the mission of this community,” said Claire Thompson, the executive director of The Farmory.

“We're a smaller nonprofit organization, so just really allowing the community to know what we do and how we can help,” added Lisa Anderson-Bero, the executive assistant director for the Transformation house.

Nonprofits add this opportunity is one that will only help bring everyone together.

“It engenders relationships and cuts down on the silo-mentality that has people elbowing things out when everybody knows we're better together,” Robinson said.

"Obviously we all have different missions, but really when it comes to it, we're all doing the same thing and that's helping the Green Bay area," added Bill Gosse, the executive director of St. Vincent De Paul Green Bay.

“We're going to do everything we can to help this out and we have found when we win, people are more generous, so let's win the super bowl,” Murphy said.

Give BIG Green Bay 2020 is offering $362,500 in matching funds and incentives, an increase of $50,000 from last year. The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation is underwriting all program expenses as well to allow the full $250,000 Green Bay Packers Foundation commitment to be allocated as matching funds and encourage community members to give BIG.

NBC26 is proud to be the media sponsor for the event.
