Green Bay residents have encountered a stinky problem this summer: skunks.
There has been an influx of calls complaining about skunks in people's yards, Green Bay Police said on Facebook Thursday.
While police can't actually do anything about the skunks because wildlife has freedom to roam, there are ways to keep the smelly critters off your property, according to police.
Green Bay Police offered the following solutions:
- Place moth balls around the perimeter of your yard
- Place citrus peels, such as orange or lemon, around your yard
- Mix up a skunk repellent mixture called hot pepper spray. Chop one yellow onion and some jalapeño peppers. Mix those with one tablespoon of cayenne pepper and boil in two quarts of water for at least 20 minutes. Strain the mixture with a cheesecloth and place in a spray bottle. The skunk will avoid anything sprayed with this, although it must be reapplied once every three to five days or after rain.
