APPLETON, Wis. — Appleton Police say an investigation into an assault led to officers setting up a perimeter which shut down traffic on E. Wisconsin Avenue between Morrison Street and Drew Street.
Around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, police say officers responded to reports of a man assaulting a woman at a home on the 300 block of E. Wisconsin Avenue. Police heard that the suspect was armed with a handgun. Police also say the suspect outstanding arrest warrants including one for violent offenses.
As police set up a perimeter, police say The Kaleidoscope Academy, located two blocks north, incident and initiated their safety procedures.
Police say the suspect came out of the home as officers were getting information from the victim and were preparing to contact the suspect. Police say the suspect was taken to Outagamie County Jail.
More information is expected on Friday.
