A charcoal grill sparked a Labor Day garage fire in Fond du Lac, according to firefighters.

Crews got the call to the 200 block of Chestnut St. just after 5:15 p.m., according to a news release.

The grill, before it was completely cooled, was put back in the garage near flammable materials, which caught fire, authorities said in a news release.

No one was hurt, but the garage was heavily damaged.

"This fire should remind us all of the proper way to store grills and the ashes," Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Chief Peter O'Leary said in a news release.  The recommended wait time to discard ashes or to return a grill to the garage is 72 hours, the release said.
