Illinois Governor Signs 'Red Flag' Gun Bill Into Law

The governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner, signed a bill into law that allows police to temporarily take guns away from people who may pose a danger to themselves or others.

The Firearms Restraining Order Act lets police, family members and others like roommates seek a court order of protection allowing officials to confiscate guns from people deemed a threat.

Illinois is now one of 13 states to enact so-called "red flag" legislation. Florida, New Jersey and Maryland are some of the states that passed similar bills after the Parkland, Florida, school shooting in February.

Rauner also signed another measure into law that requires a 72-hour waiting period for all gun purchases, but he said he would not add more oversight to gun stores.
