LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has given the all-clear after the discovery of a suspicious package prompted an evacuation of some dorms.
UW-La Crosse spokesman Brad Quarberg says a bomb squad checked the package Tuesday night and found no explosives.
The school had issued a campus alert in the afternoon. Police blocked off part of the campus, and some dorms were evacuated as a precaution.
The La Crosse Tribune (http://bit.ly/1SMVT49 ) reports Chancellor Joe Gow says a suitcase was spotted in a gazebo by Drake Hall.
Quarberg says the bomb squad arrived at 6 p.m. The all-clear was given about two hours later.
Whitney Center was closed for dining Tuesday evening. But classes and activities continued.
