PLAINFIELD, Wis. (WISC) — A young boy fighting a rare form of cancer is using the donations collected in his honor to help a grieving family, WISC-TV reports.

Miguel Duran has stage 4 Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer that forms in soft tissue. According to a GoFundMe page, the cancer is aggressive and the 9-year-old likely only has a few more months to live.

Tri-County schools raised more than $2,700 for 9-year-old Miguel. However, on Monday, Duran and his family opted to re-donate the money to help the family of the Tri-County kindergartner struck and killed by a vehicle Monday while waiting for the school bus near Plainfield.

“We cannot thank the school enough for their contribution, but in light of the situation, we cannot accept the donation,” his family said in a social media post.

“This family needs it more right now. Our time with Miguel is limited, but we still have time. He wasn’t ripped away from us in a tragic accident. Hold your littles close.”
