MADISON (NBC 26) — Gov. Tony Evers is ordering state-managed law enforcement agencies to review their use of force policies.

The governor stated he signed Executive Order No. 111 on Wednesday, which includes the Department of Natural Resources Division of Public Safety and Resource Protection, the Wisconsin State Capitol Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol. The order instructs these agencies to review and update their use of force policies.

“We’re getting to work here on the state level to make sure we’re leading by example and setting the bar in Wisconsin,” Gov. Evers said in a statement. “Wisconsinites across our state are demanding action and meaningful, systemic change—this is a critically important step, but it can't be the last."

This comes a day after the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial. It also comes on the same day the Wisconsin Assembly’s bipartisan racial disparities task force issued new recommendations for changes in law enforcement practices in the state.

Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos created the task force in August after the Legislature ignored nine proposals Evers put forward in June and after the Jacob Blake shooting.
