MARINETTE COUNTY (NBC 26) -- A former school volleyball coach was sentenced to nearly a decade behind bars on Monday for child sex crimes.

Jason Nieminski was charged with multiple child sex crimes, including sexual exploitation of a child, sexual assault of a child, and possession of child pornography. Online court records show Nieminski entered a no contest plea to some of the charges in October and other charges were dismissed.

According to a criminal complaint filed last year, an investigation based on a cyber tip revealed that Nieminski had been exchanging sexually explicit messages with a teenage girl. According to statements in the complaint, Nieminski had sex with the victim several times. The complaint also said Nieminski told the victim that if she told anyone, Nieminski was going to say the victim blackmailed him. The complaint also said Nieminski gave the girl contraception.

The School District of Coleman accepted Nieminski's resignation in February 2018, according to minutes from the school board meeting.

On Monday, a judge sentenced Nieminski to more than 9 years and 9 months behind bars, as well as 10 years extended supervision.
