The De Pere Police Department says it is with great sadness that they have announced the death of retired K-9 Elsie.
Elsie was the first narcotics detection K-9 introduced to the De Pere Police Department and served alongside Officer Joseph Johnson from October 15, 2006 to December 28, 2015.
Upon retirement, Elsie remained with Officer Johnson and his family until her passing.
"Elsie interacted with the community through school visits, various community engagements and hundreds of demonstrations. Elsie was always a big hit with the presentations that involved children," a Facebook post from the De Pere Police Department reads.
Elsie passed away from a terminal illness on Friday, December 2.
"Elsie will be missed by her family, both at the police department and in the Johnson household," the De Pere Police Department said. "She was a big part of their family, and a large void has been created with her unexpected passing."
